European Adventure

This summer, I left my job and am taking two months to live with my brother and sister-in-law in Germany. Best decision I've made in a long time.
I left Indianapolis on May 16th and won't be back until July 18th. Plenty of time for traveling and soul searching.

Bonjour, Paris!

I think we should be pretty proud of ourselves today.

After Nate got off or work this afternoon, we finished last-minute packing and drove to the Kaiserslautern Hauptbahnhoff (train station) and waited for our high speed train to arrive from Frankfurt/Mannheim. Once this bullet/ice/TGV/whatever kind of train you want to call it arrived, we rode first class to Saarbruken, and then on to Paris! It took about 2.5 hours to get from Ktown to Paris, which is really fast!

Waiting in Ktown for the TGV!

There it is!

Huge seats, plus a meal... at least it was better than airplane food!

Provincial France!

Beautiful rainbow! :)

After we arrived at the Paris train station, we had to fumble our way through the process of obtaining Metro tickets. It was kind of a struggle, since none of us are familiar with Paris, but with the help of the friendly guy at the counter, we figured it out. We knew which Metro to take to get to our hotel, but after we got off, we had no clue where it was. After walking around for a while, suddenly the neon sign was just ahead of us. Thank goodness. We found our hotel room, but instead of a three-person room, it just had two twin beds in it. Great. I had a short discussion with the receptionist, and we were put in a different room... with four twin beds. At this point, we'll take it. Brooke and I just kind of looked at each other. We were spoiled in London with our really nice hotel room. But in the end, it doesn't matter... the room is just a place to sleep. The real tour of Paris starts tomorrow!

Our plan for tomorrow is to make it to Notre Dame, the Louvre, and the Eiffel Tower. We have tickets to go to the top of the Eiffel Tower at sunset tomorrow night, which should be beautiful. I can't wait!

Well, it's late... and we have a big day tomorrow. Til then!

Bon soir,
Annie

  1. ANNIE the blog looks beautiful. I saw it randomly on fbk and since I'm obsessed with Europe, you know... plus i love the tgv.

I'm going to be in Paris the whole month of July--I arrive thurs morning. You won't still be around, will you? How many cities do you get to hit before Germany? Just pretend we explored together singing 'streets of london' all the way. oh! and don't miss the Opera house in paris :) I think you'd like it.

Have a lovely time ~ mariah
