UPDATE: Just wanted everyone to know that none of us have contracted E. coli. Yuck.
Onward..
I've realized that a lot of people have misconceptions about the Autobahn. Let's take one thing at a time.
Most Americans seem to think that the Autobahn is one majorly awesome highway with no speed limit and one multi-million dollar car after the other. Eh, not exactly. The Autobahn is a series of highways all over Germany. Most of it does have a suggested speed limit, and if you are going over the suggested limit and get into an accident, insurance won't cover it. Only about 15% of the Autobahn does not have a speed limit. Also, it's illegal to run out of gas on the Autobahn; the penalty is a hefty fine... but crashing is not illegal. Another fun fact... the Nazis built the highways. Oh, and about the super fast cars... I've seen one Lamborghini in the four weeks I've been out here. There are also no directions on the highway signs (as in, the A6 West). It just tells you what major city you're heading towards.
That's what a no speed limit sign looks like. Just in case you were wondering.
Sorry for the tangent. Enough people have asked me, "So, hey... have you been on the AUTOBAHN yet?!" so I just thought I'd clear things up.
Anyway, things were quiet this week. We went car shopping for a new car for Brooke, since her Ford Mondeo is, as the Germans put it, "kaput." Yes, they actually use that term quite often. So hopefully she'll have a new car soon! I also now have plans to visit Lucerne, Switzerland and Brugge, Belgium in July! I'm so excited about that... they both sound really awesome! Brooke and I both got to tour where Nate works, which was really impressive... the Air and Space Operations Center. One of the places is in a bunker underground and the other is a huge new building. I'll just tell you how impressive it is by saying... if we're ever under a nuclear threat or anything like that... don't worry. These guys will take care of it.
Our big Paris trip is coming up in two weeks! That's going to be so much fun... we have tickets to go up to the top of the Eiffel Tower at sunset, which will be amazing! Brooke's aunt is flying in tomorrow for a week... that will be fun! I'm sure we'll do a lot of shopping and visiting cities around Kaiserslautern (know as 'Ktown' to us Americans), and hopefully Luxembourg this weekend.
We finished painting the house today! A couple of days ago, Brooke and I painted both hallways, and then today, the three of us painted the master bedroom and the second guest room. Took us over eight hours from start to finish today, but we listened to... eight hours.. of Dave Matthews, which I thought was equally impressive.
I have a few pictures that I was going to add to this post, but it will have to wait until tomorrow, because this girl is wiped out. More soon!
Annie
