Yesterday, Brooke and I drove to Speyer, which is a town about an hour away. It's a quaint town with a claim to fame: the Speyer Cathedral was where the Pope asked Martin Luther to recant.
We had lunch and then walked around for a couple hours, including touring the famous cathedral.
View of the Speyer Cathedral from where we ate lunch.
The Pope's residence across the street.
Cola beers!
Yummy salads
The church was really old... built in the 1000s... and the inside was really pretty.
A decorated human bone. Creepy.

Us in front of the cathedral.
Pretty fountain.
After walking around Speyer, we headed home. Unfortunately for us, the GPS took us home on a route that was completely void of autobahns... which meant that we spent the next hour and a half navigating through wine country and German wooded hills on roads that would pass for one-lane streets in the States but were perfectly acceptable as two-lane roads in Germany. Thankfully, we made it home without running out of gas or the GPS dying or anything like that. Funny experience, though. Well, I leave for the States on Monday... but I'm going to Brugge, Belgium on Saturday and we have our Rhine River cruise on Sunday... so I should have a few more highlights before leaving Europe. I'll let you know how Belgium is as soon as I get back!
